I think maternity sessions just may be my favorite session to shoot. They are family sessions (which I love) with a bit of anticipation and excitement thrown in. This session was no different, I had so much fun with this family! They were awaiting their baby girl, Sofia – who I have now met and is absolutely adorable (baby portraits to be blogged soon!). Congrats to the M Family!
I recently joined a great organization called Welcome Them Home. They match volunteer photographers up with families that have someone coming home from deployment. I had been anxiously waiting my first one, and I was so excited to attend a homecoming at Camp Pendleton for the E family. I got to know Mom and their sweet little girl a bit while we were waiting. Dad was returning from Afghanistan with the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion. He had been gone for 7 months. As we were waiting the anticipation of everyone was just overwhelming – so many families and friends. Finally they arrived – and Dad spotted his little girl! As you can tell from the reactions of those around them it was priceless. Just amazing. Thank you so much to the E family for your service to our country!
This month’s Project 12 topic is Fill the Frame. This means that your subject will fill the entire frame of your photo. It really puts the focus on your subject because there is nothing else in the image! I love taking these of my kids when I can (translation: when they let me!). This time I decided to try something a bit different. We are just finishing up landscaping our yard, having started from scratch. It has been a bit of a labor of love, and the boys have been helping us quite a bit. We decided to pick almost all succulents for plants and we were amazed at the sheer variety! They are so detailed and beautiful! The kids are fascinated, we have been walking the neighborhood and visiting nurseries checking out all of the plants. We are going to order some large prints of these to hang around the house, too (we need to get started on the inside now!).
You will definitely want to check out the blog of Chicago photographer Christine Blaylock to view her lovely work – and then follow through the circle!

Absolutely lovely! We’re in the same mode at our house–though we started on the inside and need to move to the outside… Spring cleaning!
It’s going to be 90 degrees today, I can feel summer coming up right around the corner! I’m still getting caught up with my blog posts, so it seemed a fitting time to wrap up blogging my fall sessions. These sessions were fabulous, the families were all so much fun to work with. We did fall minis at park and beach settings, it’s so hard to pick a favorite!
[…] Little Sofia was just the perfect model for this newborn session! I love photographing this family, they are so relaxed and fun – even with a new baby in the house:). This was a great session in every way, but I have to admit photographing the proud big sister with her new baby sister was my favorite!
