Project 12 Portraits | Narrative Portraits

Happy Valentine’s Day! This month’s theme for my portrait blog circle is Narrative Portraits. These are portraits where the subjects and their environment tell a story. My boys had some ideas in mind for Valentine’s Day, so we ran with it. We spent an afternoon shooting with Allison of Allison Jacobs Photography. The boys had a great time together – even in the rain! Visit the blog of Suzanne Carey Photography to view her moving narrative portraits and then follow the circle!

Loooooooove these Kimberly!!! You caught some really great expressions in these images—shows the boys really did have fun even with our cameras in their faces!

The B Family | Crystal Cove Family Photographer

This session was with one of my favorite families…and it was also the coldest session I have ever shot! It was so cold and windy when we got down to the water we almost headed home. We decided to stay and get a few shots and meet up again to complete the session. The boys were troopers, and luckily their mom dressed them warmly! Crystal Cove is a gorgeous location, I love the different colors and textures.

Little brother was so cute, he would stand up and make sure he was front and center in the photo!

This photo has become a tradition, this is the third year we have taken this shot. Poor Daddy, big brother is starting to get big!

My Boys | San Juan Capistrano Children’s Photographer

I had a chance to take my boys out for some photos last weekend. We checked this spot out last fall and it looks like a different place now. The rain has been nice – everything is beautiful and green. The Open Space was no exception. The boys had fun climbing on the tractor and chasing the big tumbleweeds that were rolling between the orange trees. I’m not sure what happened, but my boys are enjoying having their pictures taken! I hope it lasts for a least a little while longer!

The S Family | Orange County Lifestyle Photographer

This session was just a dream to shoot! I have photographed this family many times, and it was so fun and relaxing to hang out with them at home and at the park. My perfect session is a mix of more traditional portrait images and images like these – capturing a family doing everyday things together. My only complaint is – just like my boys – the girls are getting too big too fast! Can’t they just slow down a little bit?

Project 12 Portraits | Window Light

I recently joined up with an amazing group of women for my second monthly blog circle. We are photographing our children using a different theme each month. For guidance, we are using Chris Orwig’s book, People Pictures: 30 Exercises for Creating Authentic Portraits. I am just beginning to get into this book, and so far it is amazing. I am so excited to learn and grow with these women this year and become a better photographer. This month our theme is window light. Please visit the blog of Williamsville, NY photographer Melissa Deakin to view her beautiful window light work.
